Back from the Brink… and Still Kicking!

Sometimes you just need a little perspective, to have some space and time in between your blog and the real-life events unfolding before you. Toby Keith said it best with , “As soon as we could see clearly through our big black eye, we lit up your world like the fourth of July!” Ah, Toby. He is missed.

Back to my hiatus. I found myself in a hard space. Not able to write, both legally and energetically the way I really needed to. Ironically, these are the times I swore I would hang in for. No judging.

These are the times that we wives need support, and these are the times we find ourselves the most lonely. These are the times, however, that we find out what we are made of.

Entrepreneur Wife Pinball: Now Playing, Always Tilting

“You’d be surprised what you can achieve when you don’t have a choice,” Alex Hormozi (who’s podcast, THE GAME, I highly recommend.) Ain’t that the truth. (And please don’t @ me with how we always have a choice here, the options are limited and the others involve losing things well worth fighting for.)When your WHY is your family, your home, your livelihood, you don’t even deliberate over whether the fight is worth it or not. There is no time for such an indulgence, we have college tuitions to pay.

As we began to navigate through the maze of legal battles, I stepped into a full-time position at VOLO. In my head, these last months resemble one never-ending pinball machine game. Just me ricocheting from one wall to the next, the walls symbolizing aspects of the business, obviously.

As soon as I’d start to get the slightest inkling of understanding of one part of the business, I’d be catapulted to another. And to Ryan’s credit, this was what he had to make do with as his business partner. At least he knew I wasn’t going to try to steal the business from him. I wouldn’t know how! Ha!

Look Back Just Long Enough to See Your Strength

Every morning, I would repeat the mantra, “Keep your head down, work hard, stay humble.” Actually, I still do as my game of pinball continues presently. Also, I just really think this is a great mantra for ANY season of life. It’s a long hike up a steep mountain, the summit looking WAY too far off in the distance, your feet blistered, your quads shaking, wondering when this climb will end, the summit seeming to move farther and farther away with each step. A moving target if you will.

Take a moment to turn around and look back down down. Be proud of yourself for the ground you have covered, the hills you have conquered. This is where, if you take the time to reflect, you will fill yourself up with a sense of pride and renewed energy. Don’t spend too much time looking back, however, we are not going that way. Onward and upward!

Be proud of yourself. This shit ain’t easy. And it certainly isn’t for everyone. And though we may not have envisioned this, we accept the challenge and work our asses off. Because this is opportunity and because we are awesome.
